Room Of The Week :: A Glamorous Parisian Kitchen

It's been a while since I posted I room that felt a little over-the-top, but oh my do we have a stunner for you today!! Going through my files, I re-discovered this fabulous kitchen belonging to fashion designer Alexis Mabille that feels so perfect for winter inspo: bright whites, cold surfaces, and that icy blue... topped by an insane floor and a lovely use of brass!

Not only that, but I think this kitchen is capturing a few details that have been on my mind lately for kitchen trends (should we do a kitchen trend post? I think so!). Here's what we've got goin' on:

First off, I'm going to just say it: I don't love the floors. I find them a wee bit distracting from all the other wonderful things going on here, although I think they could be super fun in a different space. I'm all for herringbone, but the two tone is killing me a bit. That said, it completely adds to the personality of this extremely eclectic room!

You've got classic architecture, modern cabinetry, industrial seating, a salvage island, beautiful brass accents and inlays, and a some serious statement lighting. And don't forget the perfect array of tchotchkes. Which leads me to my Trend #1: The one-long-shelf over the counter. I'm going to have to come up with a better description than this, but trust me. It's a thing. Think of it as the next version of the stacked open shelving. Cleaner, everything within reach, and the perfect spot to display Trend #2: Art in the Kitchen.

People who actually cook a lot in your kitchen: Do you hang art there!? Doesn't it get gross and greasy from whatever is coming off your stove? I'm so intrigued by this that I may devote an entire post to art in the kitchen and why or why not. We'll see.

Trend #3: Antique Accents. This is at trend I'm most excited about and I can't wait to show you even better examples than this one, because, obviously not all of us live in a stunning Paris apartment that already has loads of character.

Trend #4: A Unique Island. love the unexpected painted blue island in this room. It keeps it from being too cold and all-white, and it adds to the playfulness. It's also not so precious, so I bet it makes for a killer party bar. I've been a fan of the not-so-matchy kitchen island for a while now, and there are so many ways to do it: switch up the countertop material, or the color of the island, or use a vintage piece. All of them are fun in their own way and I expect this trend to be a long-standing one!

For a space that has so many unique elements going on, I have to say that it doesn't stress me out. Shockingly. My favorite little elements are the addition of the brass candle holders to the cabinets, and the funky little footed canisters and the use of the marble pillar on the countertop. What are yours??
