During my hunt for the perfect blue paint for our dining room, I came across this idyllic island beach house in Mallorca. Done in high contrast blue and white, I love how quintessentially beachy it all is. I realize it may sound strange, but it's not the decor that's my favorite part about it (some of the pieces feel a little cliche to me) but the sum of its parts that really does it for me. Let's take the tour, shall we?
The first case in point is the entryway where the chandelier and blue built-in are screaming, yes yes yes! But the shabby chic vibe from the rest I'm a bit meh about. Although that pop of blue in the mini lampshade is definitely inspired. Maybe it's because I'm more of a stripes gal, but that rug is not doing it for me.
Funny enough, the designer describes the whole home as Hamptons inspired. I'm constantly intrigued by how cultures interpret other cultures when decorating, and I can see where she's pulled that inspiration. For better or for worse, this definitely has a bit of a straight-out-of-a-catalog American beach house feel. I think what's missing for me is actually just a bit more of an eclectic mix! What do you think??
Let's be honest here - with that view, it barely matters what you put in this space, as long as it doesn't distract from the endless blue of the sea! And, the palette here was definitely chosen to reflect that. But you can see where I'm coming from with the overall feel and the bones of the house, right? The layout is great, and stylistically it all works.
But wait until you see the best view in the house...
The master bedroom. I mean, seriously? I would never, ever leave.
Normally, I'm not a huge fan of floating a bed, but here I think it more than works. The whole space is incredibly dreamy, including the attached master bath, with its gorgeous brass fixtures.
A bunk room for the kiddos or visitors is simple and chic. But my favorite room in the house? Well it might just be this one...
Hello paradise! There are few things I love more than an open-air shower!! What do you think of this home? There are certainly some decorative elements I would swap out, but I would happily take this entire space! Here's how to get the look:
1 round blue mirror | 2. wood bead chandelier | 3. vintage sailboat model | 4. white linen euro shams | 5. sitka sofa | 6. jute pouf | 7. bubble glass and brass lanterns | 8. distressed cart | 9. blue and white striped rug
