Wanderlust Design :: The Quirk Hotel
If it seems wrong to start basing my next vacation destination purely on a well-designed hotel, then I don't wanna be right. Enter Quirk Hotel... in Richmond, Virginia.
A place that was definitely not on my radar (no offense to the good people of Richmond), is suddenly looking very good thanks to their fresh, modern feminine decor (by Poesis Design) and sweet Southern branding.
The expansive lobby opens right up to the bar and dining areas. With a modern take on glamour and raspberry pink upholstery the design choices are balanced by the all-white architecture of the historical interior.
The pleated pink sconces and the big bold signage might be two of my favorite details (ok that floor too...).
Contrary to what you might think, when you get upstairs to the rooms, they aren't all saccharine. Although they do have their own touches of pink - and quirk - of course.
Did you notice all the fun artwork displayed in the rooms and throughout the common areas? Guests are greeted at each floor with art by Sarah Hand, and every room displays unique details like the embroidered pillows in a variety of styles. The hotel co-founders, Ted and Katie Ukrop, are commited to the arts - before the hotel was in existence, they already owned the Quirk gallery and shop.
The hotel also includes a variety of their own branded goods, like their coffee, which is so good and the prettiest packaging too!
So, who's read for a trip to Richmond with me?
love that Richmond is on your radar! I might be a bit partial as a resident but I absolutely love this city. If it helps convince you, we’re also tied for #1 for craft breweries per capita and rank #6 for restaurants per capita! The food is nothing short of amazing and the people are some of the nicest I’ve ever met (welcome to the south!) Would love to meet up if you ever make it this way!
Love it. It’s very feminine interior, just beautiful 😊
I went to Richmond a month ago to visit a friend and I was so smitten over the gorgeous old homes that I bought a house there! It’s such a beautiful, livable city with great food and nice (but not TOOO nice) people 🙂
Come visit! And after a day or two in Richmond, spend the rest of the week in Charlottesville, just 45 minutes away. Between Monticello, the UVA Rotunda (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), more restaurants per capita than Manhattan, and gorgeous vineyards, you’ll be planning a move. It happened to me 11 years ago!
Gosh, this place just keeps sounding better and better! Who knew! Now I’m really thinking I need a visit!
