Halloween Tabletop :: A Siren’s Song

While I love a spooky Halloween setting as much as the next gal, for me this holiday has never been about blood and gore (I mean, we get enough crazy in our real lives these days - #amirite?). Instead I use them to indulge whatever mood I happen to be in for playing a little dress up. And this year? That mood was MERMAID.

Three years ago (yes THREE), I bought this long stretchy sequin skirt that I just knew would make the perfect mermaid costume. Until three days ago, I had still never worn it! This year was the year. If for no other reason than selfishly wanting to finally put it to use, I decided we'd go with a dark and stormy theme for this year's setting...

In Greek Mythology, the Sirens were three dangerous mermaids, portrayed as seductresses who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island. Of course, our mermaids still have a penchant for sparkle, so, our dark moody table still shines with bejeweled skulls and shimmering accents.

We loaded up gorgeous mercury glass vases with brightly colored 'seaweed' to make for an underwater inspired centerpiece that contrasted with the dark setting. A sprinkle of  seashells to completed the look.

At each setting, stunning rose gold flatware was mixed with crackled dinnerware that reminded me of sea glass. Black goblets seemed the most appropriate choice for glassware!

The skulls were an easy DIY - with rhinestones, pearls, and shells, we carefully glued each piece on to create a spooky greeter for every guest.

And for the host? Well, a seashell crown, of course! We used a super cheap plastic crown and covered it in seashells to create this fun topper.
