ROOM OF THE WEEK 2.23

6923878469_3fd07b4721

Yes yes yes yes yes.For some this might be woven overload, but I am in love with all the texture in this room. The touches of green and blue add just enough color, and the wallpaper simply perfect. While the rest of the rooms in this Southampton home (belonging to designer Tory Burch) are a [...]

Love sun rooms. They remind me of cottage country Ontario.

Looking forward to meeting you next week at the conference!

ROOM OF THE WEEK 10.28

It’s officially that time of year where I begin to dream of heavenly dining rooms to host cozy dinner parties….Something like this room by Joe Nahem, perhaps? I love that it’s deceptively simplistic: a table, some chairs, drapes – nothing that appears too complicated – and yet the detail of each layer is perfectly thought [...]

ROOM OF THE WEEK: 7.22

4817210822_6f99bf8158_o

Just yesterday I had a reader email me asking if I could do a post on my favorite dining rooms. I absolutely adore decorating dining areas because it mixes interior design with my other favorite subject – entertaining! So, while I sort through my files and pull out the best of the best, I thought [...]

Room of the Week 9.17

Last Thursday’s room was pure minimalism. So, this week, I’m going the exact opposite direction with this living area captured by James Merrell…I’m usually not this traditional in my taste. Ok, I’m never this traditional in my taste. And you better believe that the first thing to go in this room would be that rug. [...]

I'd love to be moving in. Your right as always Cassandra, some selective editing & that would be place of joy for me as well. I typically don't go for traditional either but I am drawn to this space (minus the carpet of course!). Lovely choice!!

Fantastic chandeliers in these rooms! My heart is especially sent a-flutter by the second one — it's the books on the table. Books get me every time. But both of the rooms feel like I could walk in, grab a good seat, curl up and read or sip some tea while chatting with friends. Very good choices.

I NEVER would have thought I'd like those colors so much in a room, but I think mixing them in with such a traditional looking room keeps the space looking young. So pretty!

Oooh, lovely. It's the kind of room you walk into and just sigh in pleasure…I'm not sure I'd put it together myself, but SO gorgeous.

Yes, the chandelier is gorgeous! There is to much stuff in the rooms though. I love the palette but would need to take some things out for me to feel peaceful. Still love the chandelier though ~ that is a restful furnishing for me. Lovely and delicate.

oh I love the dining chairs, they look like they have a low back which is quick refreshing. The lilac on those wing chairs and fantastic. It all feels so cozy like all my favorite pieces from my grandparents house!

Room of the Week 5.28

3571622951_ddd8f4faa5

I discovered this gorgeous home via the pages of Western Interiors, which introduced me to designer Renea Abbott whose explanation of her design philosophy had me jumping with agreement! “I always like to throw in a little bling, a teeny bit of sparkle, to an otherwise clean and contemporary spacee.” Yes, yes, yes, Renea!! You [...]

The “Oh, is that where I left that bag? Silly me!” placement of the Chanel bag disturbs me to no end.

It’s worse than the stylist placing shoes by the bed, by the chair, under the table, by the sofa…you get what I mean.

The rest of the house looks really nice though.

I love this home! That hallway on the cover definitley rationalized the purchase of this issue! I just adore the settee with the more modern art over it.

I love the house, but I would be happy just to have whatever came in that LARGE Chanel bag!

I’m with Townhouse Lady about the bag – a little obnoxious. Do love the bedroom, it’s a nice mix. And that hallway with the settee – really nice!

    oh. my. goodness.

My husband and I are moving in the next year and we’ve already decided that the next house we buy will be NOT new. We love the character of the older homes – there’s so much more to work with!!!

I love the black and white art above the settee – so simple but such a big statement! I’m working on a similar little DIY project myself. This picture has inspired me to get going!

Not only do I love the house, but how awesome is it to use a chanel shopping bag as a prop? i can’t stop imagining what lovely item must be in a bag that big!

The townhouse Lady is so right on. It removes any elegance the tableaux had immediately. As stately as the sette & artwork are the entryway is the polar opposite… tacky to the degree of obnoxious.

Modern Tapestries

skona+hem+dark

Tapestries seem so… well, grandma. And I don’t exactly love them in abundance. But, I do love them like this… image via skona hem Mixing modern wallpaper and pillows with midcentury accent furnishings keeps this room from aging itself. But, the tapestry bedspread combined with the print rug brings in a cozy, lived-in feel, which [...]

Room of the Week 4.24

domino+dining+rom

I’m a big fan of juxtaposition and this formal dining room from Domino does an incredible job. Normally, having the tall cabinet on one side of the room would not fly with me (I need more symmetry), but the large window and heaviness of the settee lend a bit of balance, and the fact the [...]

I’m in total agreement on the table…but the rest of the room is exquisite. I especially love the cabinet and the mix of blues.
