THE MAR A MAR COLLECTION

5553793468_6eb57493c0_o

I am a huge fan of the bold, worldly patterned rugs at Decorative Carpets, and am loving their latest collection – Mar a Mar… Such a variety of influences here, I don’t know which would be my first pick! Aqua zig zags? Blue deco fans? Red medallions? If you’ve never browsed through their site, I [...]

KUBA COOL

4533173609_06c3eb8dc3_o

For years now, this has been one of my favorite rooms for a variety of reasons… The apricot chairs. The silvery blue bench. The distressed wood coffee table. The fresh white sofa. And the little pop of pattern from those fabulous pillows. Well, if I can’t have it all, at least I can have these… [...]

Been seeing that pattern in a few places, thanks for sharing the name and info! I do love that it's a new graphic element. I'm not QUITE sick of ikat yet, but I'm ready for something new and different and these are beautiful!

I love the pattern – just beautiful!! I also want to note that Zaire is no longer that country's name. Zaire was the name of the present Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Do you know where the image is from? I've had it saved forever, but I foolishly forgot to save the source. It is such a gorgeous room!

ROOM OF THE WEEK 4.1

I thought about putting up the most hideous room I could possibly find as an April Fools joke today… but that’s just not very nice, nor inspiring, is it?? Instead, I give you this…What might be my favorite room from the latest issue of Lonny. There are a few pieces in here that I wouldn’t [...]

Room of the Week 2.26

Room of the Week 2.12

richard+powers+pillows

I love this room, photographed by Richard Powers for two big reasons. 1: I have always wanted to have a cool retro modern fireplace like that in my house (with ceilings tall enough to make it work!) and 2: those pillows. What a great way to take a plain sofa and add tons of character. [...]

Oh I love the way the staircase looks but I think I am right there with you that I would fall both down and up them! Heave forbid I had a glass of wine first!:) And those really are beautiful pillows.

I’m pretty sure those stairs aren’t legal in lots of countries – I don’t think you can have them in the UK as they are too dangerous. I definitely would hurt myself.

that fireplace is so cool! what a great focal point, the stairs are great too, although i’ll take extra care, but for the sake of design it’s worth it!

Mmmm.. It is a cool place indeed. Modern yet livable. Cool yet cozy.

Did you also notice the lush landscaping at the area’s entrance?

Wonder what kind of pictures would appeal to the owners. Wildlife in winter perhaps? Such posters will add the slightest hint of color, without altering that classic black and white theme.

I love those stairs and want them in my house! Except I live in a one-story, so I’m not sure where the stairs would go…

Room of the Week 8.28

marie+claire+living+room

I’m a little late on today’s Room of the Week. I almost forgot about it! I think I’m seeing a theme here… via marie claire maison Funny how our tastes evolve isn’t it? I think my pendulum has swung from Hollywood Regency to … what do you call this? Designers? I hate the term ‘ethnic’… [...]

Isn’t this one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s LA area houses? Hollyhock? The tiles are a giveaway. I think he was influenced more by Aztec/Mayan/Incan cultures for the tiles.

Glossy Finds: Bohemian Leaf Chair

Because I know you’ve all been coveting the chair on the current issue of Domino… Now you can imitate the colorful and ecelectic style of fashion designer Matthew Williamson with your own rattan leaf chair from Wisteria. My old roomie had one of these chairs back in Boston. We had it in the kitchen corner and would mostly use it for taking fun pictures when we were drunk. She hated it but I wouldn’t let her throw it away!
