ROUNDUP :: OUTDOOR DINING CHAIRS

I’ve been getting pretty excited these days about sunny days and outdoor entertaining. Since I don’t have a backyard of my own, I’m usually the one commandeering other’s porches, patios and decks during the summer to host BBQ’s and late evening dinners,  but this year I’m hoping we’ll get to host a few soirees in the new [...]

AHHHHHH…. LA!

253186810272994812_aJmKzGEF_c

I cannot believe it’s been since June that I’ve been in LA –  this used to feel like my home away from home, but lately with all my east coast travel, trips down the coast have been few and far between. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to be back in my [...]

HEAVEN IN A PENTHOUSE

madderlake3

I know I’ve mentioned my infatuation with conservatories on the blog before. There’s something magical to me about a space that blurs the line between indoors and out … with beautiful architecture nonetheless. So you can imagine how this  penthouse in NYC sent my heart racing when I discovered it had not one… not two… [...]

My parents have one at their house and it is awesome! in the rain especially. But in the middle of summer or winter it is def not fun to be in–it gets way too hot or cold :P

What a fantastic space, I would LOVE to live there!! Can you imagine living through the change of seasons there… the natural light and the changing light during just one simple day….
    Tx for sharing! LOVE!!

This space simply took my breath away – gorgeous! I’m a huge fan of natural light, and the changing seasons in NYC would make living in this space that much more amazing. Yes, I think I have just found my dream home….

LET’S LOUNGE…

white nook_vogue livingjpg

There’s a reason they say summer arrives in Seattle on the 5th of July. Because it’s absolutely true! The sun is shining and there’s no sign of it stopping, which means I have a nice lazy weekend ahead of me. Now to just find the perfect spot to settle in with a good book… Desperately [...]

Right now since we’ve been dealing with temps reaching 100+, about all the lounging I can manage on our south facing screened porch is in the morning with the Washington Post and a pitcher of home-brewed ice-coffee, (preferably Counter Culture) :) I would recommend any of Barbara Kingsolver’s books– I’ve just started the The Lacuna, but have read The Poisonwood Bible and Vegetable, Animal, Miracle.

CITY GARDENING

skona+hem.mini+greenhouse.conservatory.patio_.garden

While I’m certainly not ready for the responsibilities of a yard yet, and will fully admit to killing my houseplants upon occasion (my constant travel is hard on them!), I still have serious cravings for a little greenhouse of my own someday. I’m fairly obsessed with the notion, actually, which is why I’m kind of [...]

In big cities the balcony and stairs are your best friends. Your mini garden is soo pretty too and a great idea, thanks for sharing.

That little greenhouse is SO adorable! I’ve never seen one like that! I just put together and “herb wall” in my kitchen, and I’m hoping the plants do well!

I keep telling myself that I’m going to grow herbs in my living room on the huge windowsill and I just need to DO it. Although I’ve heard succulents are pretty hard to kill, maybe I should start there… Ha! Love this patio and greenhouse!

This is such a lovely idea! Who says you can’t garden when you live in a condo/apartment right!! Did you plant any herbs in the cabinet? Have you seen tried the vertical garden (www.eieihome.com/blog/do-it-yourself-vertical-gardens.html) this would look amazing too!

When we lived in an apartment, I packed our little balcony with a ton of herbs. The door was right by our kitchen so the breeze would always bring the gorgeous scents inside. I love this terrarium though – would look darling on any patio!

I wish I had even the teeniest of balconies for city gardening! That greenhouse is adorable. I can’t keep house plants alive to save my life but I’m confident that I could tackle the outdoor variety.

Oh, how pretty! I started my first herb garden about a month ago and so far so good. Hope it lasts, I’m very bad with plants…

HOLDING COURT

As we creep slowly into summer around here, I have to say that I’m beginning to wish my apartment offered a little bit out of outdoor space to enjoy the sunshine in… privately. Don’t get me wrong – I live one block from a lake and I love it, but it gets ridiculously crowded on [...]

Such lovely and idyllic spaces! If it weren’t constantly so hot in Texas, I would certainly have a beautiful courtyard.

Oh the mixed blessings of urban dwelling! I love having a walking lifestyle, having 8 parks within walking distance for our kiddo, and being close to so many awesome shops, restaurants, and culture. We have a shared yard but we do desperately miss an outdoor space of our own. These spaces you shared are beautiful – they give us reason to dream, right?!
