ROOM OF THE WEEK 5.9

It’s been a while since I’ve featured an all-out glam space around here, and it’s high time, don’t you think? What I didn’t expect is for the ‘space’ to be a hallway… Or maybe I should say, stairwell and landing. That makes it sound better, doesn’t it? Not that it needs any help, because this [...]

That gold chandelier is crazzzy beautiful! Was totally inspired by it! I’d love to get one for the wedding event I am planning in Brisbane, the color theme is white, blue and gold!

I find the room appears cluttered and doesn’t seem to flow. My eyes can not scan the room easily.

PROUD IN THE PNW

Up in my little corner of the states, we Pacific Northwesters tend to get lost in many ways. In sports. In the design scene. In fashion. But, slowly, that’s been changing. I’ve seen my city (Seattle) start to evolve in the past couple of years. From a city I felt stuck in to a city [...]

i live in the midwest but absolutely LOVE the PNW. my uncle lives in portland and i spent many happy summers as a girl driving around washington and oregon in his VW van listening to weezer and camping {two of my favorite places i remember were crater lake and the columbia river gorge}. such a gorgeous area of our country!

I feel exactly the same way! I’ve been here three years and while I’m not 100% I’ll be here forever, there’s progressively less ‘faking it’ and much more ‘making it’ when I tell people about how great it is where I live.

Hooray for the PNW coming into its own :)

    Hi Cassandra

Please can you tell me who the artwork is by in the last shot?

I always look at your blog for inspiration. Your work is always beautiful and interesting.

    Many thanks

Thank you for this entry! I have been following your blog this past year, and it always inspires me with your great taste in design, fashion, and more. I left my lovely Seattle right after college to live in NYC and work in fashion, and have just decided to move back with my fiance this summer after 8 years out East. It’s been a bit scary and emotional to wrap my head around coming home, but this piece you wrote reminded me of all the reasons to live in such a beautiful place. I can’t wait to re-discover this place, and I so appreciate your words about the creative world that exists back home. Thank you for this!!

IN THE DETAILS :: FOR THE NEXT PLACE…

coco+kelley in the details curtains in the hall

Lately I’ve been dreaming of relocating to a new apartment… something with a little more space and character, and above all, some higher ceilings! And when I do, I have a feeling these details may get incorporated… I have a mild obsession with sheer window panels. I love the way they filter sunlight (when we [...]

Love this post; particularly the sheer window panels. They look beautiful breaking up the space in the long hall and I’ve seen them hung on either side of the bed to create a cozy feeling. Beautiful.

i hear you girl! our apartment right now is totally temporary and has absolutely zero character. i cannot wait to relocate to a more permanent place {preferably with wood floors, original crown molding, multiple fireplaces, tall ceilings, and lots of windows}. :)

DAMN, YOU GLAM.

kelly wearstler

It’s official, you guys. I need a big brass door – some way, somehow – in my life.   Perhaps, in the closet, a lá glamourista Kelly Wearstler? seems a shame to hide all that fabulousness from the world, though.     I prefer to take my loud and proud glam moments out of the [...]

NEW YEAR, FRESH PALETTE

ellery resort palette citron + blush + olive

After a month of holiday focused posts (and life!), it feels so good to get back into a routine today, doesn’t it? And on a Wednesday too, which means the weekend is just around the corner! During the little time I took off, I felt like I finally found a bit of inspiration and energy [...]

A PERFECT PAIR :: GRAPHIC + ANIMAL

leopard stools + stripe painting Sally Wheat Interiors

In the past few weeks, I’ve saved both of these images to my inspiration files, and it was only today that I noticed the obvious connection… The combination of a haute little leopard print with modern printed art in faded hues is right up my alley and (thankfully!) an easy one to recreate! Finding a small [...]

I love the prints in those photos!! Such a great way to show color & use the animal print as a neutral.

I love your blog! We definitely have very similar tastes, especially in decor. The abstract art with leopard print is a wonderful combination, and I know I’ve seen the artwork you featured in the second photo. Do you know what issue of Elle Decor it was in? Or, do you happen to know who the artist is? Thank you so much, and keep inspiring!

A HEAVENLY HALL…

6803568361_2d46ef39a0_o

Peering down this hallway reminds me exactly of my entryway (of which there really is none, really… just a hall). I’ve got a print all ready to hang just like they have on the right, and have pretty much determined that my desk will be situated right where that table is. My question for you… [...]

You can’t have too many books or too much art, even all co-mingling. No such thing.

I don’t think that it will be overwhelming – I think that the books and the art will actually compliment each other very well. It looks like it will be an amazing room!
I actually did a post on floor to ceiling book walls today so if you have a second perhaps there is something else there to inspire?!
Cannot wait to see your space when you are done, it is going to be stunning!

I gotta agree with Jessica – no such thing as too many books or too much art! The space looks loved and lived in as all homes should.

It looks great like it is. From the perspective shown, looking from the hall to the bookcases, it probably would look great *without* the art on the left, too. But once you get into the bookcase room, that long wall might become an issue (do you hang a big piece floating between the table and nothing?). Of course, depending on how you place your desk and relating objects, you could come up with a solution. But I can see why they did the gallery wall which covers the transition from entry to first room.

you can never have too many books. for the art work try a different style, hang them more organized, like a grid pattern or symmetrically so it does not look all over the place and then you can add different small objects that have a special meaning to you. everyone should have a pair of x-benches. I’ve been on the hunt for a long time for some reasonable priced one if you find any send them this way :)

That table and those stools need to go into my house…like right now. And yeah, I agree with most everyone else about the art/books concentration. If your art is interesting, then the more the merrier. The only reason I can see to put up less is if you want people focus on a particular piece.

I love it! As much as I dream of clean white and elegant, the other side of me always returns a cozy, layered and colorful room filled pieces that alone you could easily see in their proper places, but together charm you with wonder.

Hmmmm I’m leaning to just a little too much. I always have a tough time editing but I think creating a resting spot for the eyes is always the way to go!
