Thanksgiving Tabletop :: A Golden Gathering

As this crazy year draws to a close, it feels more important than ever to gather friends and family together. So, when concepting the idea of our Thanksgiving tabletop, I had one theme in mind: Gather. Which made me think about setting the table a little differently this year…

As opposed to the opulent, bountiful style we usually set for the holidays, I wanted something pared down. I wanted the ‘theme’ to be friendship and family. I wanted to show everyone how grateful I am to have them in my life. So, I teamed up with my friend Cozbi to create a setting that was all about the florals and conveying our message of warmth and gratitude.

Layers of golden tones accented by blush pinks all on top of a warm wood table may sound crazy in theory. In reality, the warmth exudes from the setting, and provides a welcome golden glow even on a gloomy November day.

But the most special touch were these foraged fall posy bouquets created with a combination of fresh and dried florals, wrapped with a leather band that my good friend Brandy calligraphed ‘gather’ and ‘grateful’ on. I just love how the warm worn leather sits against the satin napkin, with all that floral texture.

Can we just admire how a little pink feels for Thanksgiving? Never thought about it as a color for fall, but mixed with all those dried greens and wheat tones it suddenly makes complete sense. I love the hit of red from the pomegranate too.

The best part about these beautiful bouquets is that they are meant to last when dried! Guests can take them home, hang them upside down and keep them as a reminder of a special evening.

Every year that we create new settings for Thanksgiving, I think, “This one is my favorite,” but this time the simplicity of it all combined with a unique palette has truly struck a chord with me. Here’s how  you can create the look yourself…

And if you don’t have a beautifully worn tabletop, a linen tablecloth will do nicely to provide a similar warm texture! What plans do you have for your settings? Ready to forage for your own florals? See our tutorial right here.
