As I get older, while there are always plenty of items to add to my wishlist come Christmas, these things aren’t exactly needs. In fact, even those items this year have to do mostly with one thing – TRAVEL. My favorite gift to myself every year – to go somewhere new and inspiring.
And while nothing quite matches the feeling of being in a new country – or charming neighborhood for that matter – there is one thing that is just as valuable as that experience, and that’s the memories we bring back with us in the form of photographs.
You guys… as I was putting this book together, I realized that I hadn’t created a travel album since 2002 (!!!!), when I returned from doing study abroad in Italy. Apparently my need for sharing travel has been satiated by online albums. Well, no more.
Creating this album brought back so many memories for me from this year’s trip to Marrakech, but also brought back how important and special it is to have a way to easily return to this experience again and again, and share them with others!
So let’s talk about how this all came together.
This gorgeous book is an hdAlbum from Canon DreamLabo. If you’re as particular as I am about the end result when ordering something like this, then you will love the process of designing this book because it’s highly customizable. The high definition print quality is stunning and is created with with seven dye-based inks for a wider spectrum of colors, so there’s no discoloration or photos that feel less saturated – it’s literally perfect.
The process is pretty easy, too. I chose the lay-flat option so that I could do full page spreads like this shot and have them feel completely seamless. After that, I downloaded the software from the site and started designing!
It’s helpful to have your images all together in a folder beforehand, so you can quickly add them to the album, but I did add some later and it was simple to do so! The software also tells you when you’ve already used a photo so you don’t repeat, unless you want to.
You can easily add in text as well, although I only put a bit in the front of my book…
There are many layout options that help guide you along through the process, and I think it’s great for those who are less design savvy, as well as those who are advanced and know exactly what they want. The software will tell you if an image is too low resolution for the space you’re trying to put it in, which I is super helpful!
But most importantly, this is a TRUE keepsake. I will treasure this book for so long, and I’m already anticipating creating another one after our upcoming Portugal trip this February!
I also can’t wait to go back and create albums from some past trips – I absolutely want to make one for my whole family from our Italy trip a few years ago when we visited my father’s hometown in Southern Italy. It was such a special adventure, and we have long since buried those photos in our phones and Facebook pages. Time to bring them back with an album that will make an incredible gift!
The Classic Album is a great affordable place to start, and right now they have some amazing offers for up to 40% off for the holidays! If you’re struggling to find the perfect gift, well maybe you already have it! Get started by visiting storefront.dl5k.com and selecting a retailer near you. Download the software, dig up those photos, and hop to it!
