Every Christmas season, I spend at least one day shopping locally-made goods for friends and family. It’s so important to me to support local artists, designers and independent stores in Seattle. Many of us get blinded by the steals and deals at larger retailers and forget that it’s worth it to pay a bit more in support of the quality, craftsmanship and hard work that comes from our neighbors.
Being a part of a family business that survives on local support, I know how much a community can make or break the success of a small business. I have seen too many shops close, and designers leave this city, due to lack of patrons – and I don’t want to see it happen again! So, if you love your local businesses, make sure you’re supporting them this time of year and year-round!
Here are some of my favorite picks from Seattle shops and designers…
1. brass chime by ladies & gentlemen studio // 2. puffer vest at glasswing // 3. jon boy caramels // 4. shamila rose quartz earrings // 5. grain design strung sconce // 6. mineral and gem study at moorea seal // 7. shannon koszyk earrings // 8. ampersand as apostrophe gold shopper bag // 9. mark garments sweatshirt // 10. daly bird grace wristlet bag // 11. joanna morgan ‘krystallos’ rings // 12. kimberly baker narwhal necklace // 13. tarboo ruck sack // 14. pinecone handkerchief
If you’re a Seattlite, I hope you’ll join me in supporting these locals and many more! If you haven’t already, you should head down to the AmEx Delta Popup shops at the bottom of the Harbour Steps where some of the vendors above have been showing and selling their wares the last few weeks. The sellers change on a weekly basis, and all have been fantastic so far.
