A Halloween Tabletop :: Going Gotham

While many of us love the excuse to don a costume and get into the spirit of Halloween… others, not so much. (I can’t tell you how many boyfriends I have had to drag to a party because they hate dressing up.) So, when I was dreaming up our Halloween tablescape for this year, I wanted to make it something that would be fun and easy for everyone involved. Welcome to Gotham.

I don’t know a single man on the planet who could object the opportunity to be Batman for an evening… especially if the attire is provided by the host! With a few easy ‘costume’ additions to a cityscape-inspired tabletop, guests need not worry about playing dress up. Simple black attire (what else would the people of Gotham wear?) and a few props set the scene just fine…

Add a bar with a signature drink (we’ll share our pick with you tomorrow!) in ghostly linens and bat stir sticks…

Create your cast of characters, and get creative (here we made the Joker perfect for a gal!)

Then, light the candles and watch the table transform into a glowing city…

I love the way the bats appear to fly through the cityscape – which, by the way, is a set of magazine racks that we filled with tealights votives so their windows would glow…

To create that gritty city look, we layered hard metals on a linen with plenty of texture, and added gold flatware to pop. The patterns on the china and napkin mimic the glowing windows of city lights – a nice touch to compliment the centerpieces.

Everyone loves a glowing dinner by candlelight and I can’t think of a more perfect excuse to throw a party like this than Halloween! With or without costumes, this tabletop sets the mood for a sophisticated evening in the city… wouldn’t you agree? I call dibs on Catwoman…
