A few weeks back you may have noticed some tweets coming from a few of us in San Francisco as 25 bloggers descended upon the city to get a sneak peek at the new art.com site and meet the passionate people behind the thoughtful revamp…
For those of you unfamiliar with art.com, you’re in for a treat. For those who have visited the site in the past – forget everything you thought you knew about it. I was one of the latter, and can confidently say I am really in love with all the new updates.
The site boasts the world’s largest selection of handpicked art images – which means there are a LOT of possibilities. Before, it was a chore to sort through all the options, especially when you had no idea where to start, but now their ‘Get Inspired‘ area offers some fantastic procured selections to get you going…
You can browse according to style, and there are features on artists, and designers picks as well! I’m also loving the ability to upload a photo of your room so you can see how the art will look right then and there – such a great feature for design clients!
As a part of this experience, we were lucky enough to be able to pick one piece of art to call our own… so I went with this one:
David Hockney has always been a favorite artist of mine. He perfectly captures the essence of California living in the mid-century, and I loved the colors of this painting (entitled Beverly Hills Housewife) and how it portrays the fashion and design of that era. The framed version will be going up in my bedroom, and I can’t wait! It was such a fun experience to see how the other 24 bloggers picked their pieces and what they meant to them. Art is so personal – I’m always intrigued to hear why someone is drawn to a piece.
Of course, it wasn’t easy to pick just one print so I thought I’d share a few others have have made it to my favorites gallery…
I’m obviously inspired by images that evoke sunny, California living, but you can see by my selections how eclectic one person’s taste in art can quickly become. I’m still seriously considering the knives for the kitchen – they’re just too cool in pink. Sometimes you’re surprised by what your drawn to, and the Vogue cover was one of those for me, but I really just loved the colors and how it captured a moment in time when women really did wear pearls and gloves, and we didn’t have supermodels on the covers of Vogue.
Finding art can be so challenging and I’m so happy to see such a large site take on the serious task of making things a little easier for us all. I can’t wait to continue to share more with you in the following months as this sponsored partnership continues!

So funny, because I had JUST noticed this revamp this morning! I adore the new look, and the navigation is so much more intuitive. All of a sudden I feel inspired by the site rather than (begrudgingly) going to the site once I feel inspired.
Wow! They put art back in smart!! franki
