Last Thursday’s room was pure minimalism. So, this week, I’m going the exact opposite direction with this living area captured by James Merrell…
I’m usually not this traditional in my taste. Ok, I’m never this traditional in my taste. And you better believe that the first thing to go in this room would be that rug. Yuck. But the COLORS!!! Swap out a few items (like that floor lamp), clear off some spaces (that coffee table isn’t looking very useful, is it?), add a few modern details, and I could easily settle in here to enjoy the palette…
As well as that pile of books on the table nearby! Oh, and, hello fantastic chandelier and mismatched art. You fit in quite nicely as well.

please please come and visit… you know i adore your blog….have a wonderful day x pam
Not really the biggest fan of muted colors, these really work! Great post!
I'd love to be moving in. Your right as always Cassandra, some selective editing & that would be place of joy for me as well. I typically don't go for traditional either but I am drawn to this space (minus the carpet of course!). Lovely choice!!
what a perfect palette!
I never would have thought to combine those colors, but it works really well!
Fantastic chandeliers in these rooms! My heart is especially sent a-flutter by the second one — it's the books on the table. Books get me every time. But both of the rooms feel like I could walk in, grab a good seat, curl up and read or sip some tea while chatting with friends. Very good choices.
I NEVER would have thought I'd like those colors so much in a room, but I think mixing them in with such a traditional looking room keeps the space looking young. So pretty!
perfection! this is totally my style and i'm moving so it's PERFECT timing for inspiration for the new living room.
chic and relevant as always!
thanks.

Oooh, lovely. It's the kind of room you walk into and just sigh in pleasure…I'm not sure I'd put it together myself, but SO gorgeous.
Oh wow that is one lovely palette! I am with you on the rug having to go:)
Yes, the chandelier is gorgeous! There is to much stuff in the rooms though. I love the palette but would need to take some things out for me to feel peaceful. Still love the chandelier though ~ that is a restful furnishing for me. Lovely and delicate.
This is QUITE a stunner….wow.
LOVE.
oh I love the dining chairs, they look like they have a low back which is quick refreshing. The lilac on those wing chairs and fantastic. It all feels so cozy like all my favorite pieces from my grandparents house!
Wow, there's a lot to look at in this room – lots of lovely stuff
