I love this room, photographed by Richard Powers for two big reasons. 1: I have always wanted to have a cool retro modern fireplace like that in my house (with ceilings tall enough to make it work!) and 2: those pillows.
What a great way to take a plain sofa and add tons of character. The mismatched stripes and patterns bring an eclectic and comfortable look to a room that would otherwise be fairly plain, white and cold.
Ok, I’ll throw in a the fact that floating staircases are visually awesome. But I think I would end up killing myself on it if I actually had one – I’m way too clumsy!

Loving the stripes with the neutral. It adds so much warmth and is still really clean all at the same time.
okay, i love the staircase! that is amazing!
Oh I love the way the staircase looks but I think I am right there with you that I would fall both down and up them! Heave forbid I had a glass of wine first!:) And those really are beautiful pillows.
My couch is that exact shape. Thanks for the inspiration!
I’m pretty sure those stairs aren’t legal in lots of countries – I don’t think you can have them in the UK as they are too dangerous. I definitely would hurt myself.
that fireplace is so cool! what a great focal point, the stairs are great too, although i’ll take extra care, but for the sake of design it’s worth it!
Mmmm.. It is a cool place indeed. Modern yet livable. Cool yet cozy.
Did you also notice the lush landscaping at the area’s entrance?
Wonder what kind of pictures would appeal to the owners. Wildlife in winter perhaps? Such posters will add the slightest hint of color, without altering that classic black and white theme.
I love those stairs and want them in my house! Except I live in a one-story, so I’m not sure where the stairs would go…
#3 All that natural light is amazing! I wonder if it faces east or west? Either way . . .
