You know, when I had my first sneak peak at Blueprint last summer at the home of a woman who works for Martha, I KNEW I was going to love it… if it lived up to its potential. My friends, this magazine just keeps getting BETTER! Which is usually not the case. My favorite little find in the September/October issue? This idea for a coffee table…
Using a foldout cot (updated in an oil-based grey paint) and kitchen trays (repainted in a perfect yellow) Rebecca Robertson created a totally cute and easy to mix up coffee table. Imagine, with just a can of spray paint, you can change the trays to match your decor! This is a dream for a girl with design ADD like me! Plus, let’s be honest, the styling at Martha Stewart is pretty much the best you can get. How great is that horse?

Oh – I loved that table too – although I had to see it online at MS, coz I can never find the mag in Australia!(I’ll just have to try harder!)
It’s so simple, imaginative, stylish and fun.
(Can’t say I’m too keen on the horsey!)
This could be an ideal placeholder to tide me over while I spend the necessary time (and money) searching for the ‘perfect’ coffee table for my living room. Plus, I always see campy looking kitchen trays at thrift stores, but never felt like I had any use for them. I guess I do now.
I loved this room too. Freakin’ genius.
thanks for the comments! i loved this whole room too with the yellow & grey combo!
freefalling~ if you’d ever like to do a magazine swap, i’d love to send you some US mags in exchange for any Aussie home decor mags you could recommend!
I’m not in need of a coffee table, but I can also see this same sort of treatment working with a folding luggage rack and one tray for a flexible guest bedroom side table+luggage rack+tray.
The room is beautiful (I especially love the rug and the horse), but for me, the coffee table is the weakest link. I suspect that if the room were photographed from a different angle, the makeshift coffee table would have looked a lot less glamorous.
I agree with most of you – this seems like a great temporary solution or a fun idea for the right space (like a little summer home?) but might not be practical in the long run. But the room itself… love it!
